Awakening - A solo art experience by Gina Tyquiengco

Playground Productions Studio is pleased to announce a unique exhibition featuring artist Gina Tyquiengco, on view at 5529 Bonna Avenue, Suite #10, Indianapolis, IN 46219, on Friday, March 2, 2018 from 7 PM to 9 PM. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition in the US and with Playground Productions Studio. The exhibition will showcase a selection of paintings from the artist’s black and white series, “Awakening.” In addition, the event will feature live music from performing artist, Dabu.

The paintings featured in the exhibition focus on black and white diptych abstraction, and explore the theme of “cultural duality.” The use of black and white represents the artist’s upbringing, growing up half black, half Guamanian, and raised in a Pacific Islander culture. The work encompasses the artist’s search for identity, bridging the gap between race, religion, culture, and ethnicity. The artist will be present at the exhibition on Friday, March 2, 2018.

Gina Tyquiengco was born in Fort Lewis, Washington, in 1987. She received her BS in Media Arts and Science and graduated from Indiana University in 2012. Tyquiengco’s works have been exhibited at CityArts Factory and Artlando in Orlando, FL, as well as published in the quarterly journal Obra/Artifact. She lives and works in Orlando, FL.
